Milestones & deliverables
Milestones are checkpoints within a phase; deliverables are the individual to-dos that ladder up to them. Together they let you track whether a project is actually on schedule — not just whether the budget looks right.
- A phase can have many milestones; a milestone can have many deliverables.
- Everyone can view and complete deliverables. Creating, editing, or deleting them requires Edit projects or Edit assigned projects permission.
Add a milestone
Section titled “Add a milestone”-
Open a project and click Deliverables in its sub-menu to see the phase list.
-
Expand a phase and click Add milestone.
-
Enter a name and a date (it must fall within the phase’s timeline). Add an optional description.
-
Click Create.
A circle appears on the phase and fills in as the milestone’s deliverables are completed.
Add a deliverable
Section titled “Add a deliverable”-
On the Deliverables page, click Add deliverable in the relevant phase or milestone.
-
Enter a name and due date (within the phase timeline, and before the milestone date if one is linked).
-
Optionally link a milestone, add assignees, and a description.
-
Click Create.
Deliverables not linked to a milestone appear under Other Deliverables. Open any deliverable to edit details, leave comments, @mention teammates, or mark it complete.
Create many at once
Section titled “Create many at once”When you first create a project, you can generate a batch of milestones and deliverables from a file on the Deliverables page:
- Spreadsheet: download the provided XLSX template, fill in the Milestone and Deliverable worksheets (don’t change the headers), and upload. Phase names must match the project exactly, and every deliverable needs a due date.
- PDF / text: upload a structured outline and Monograph’s AI assistant extracts the milestones and deliverables for you.
Either way, you’ll review and edit everything before it’s added — nothing is saved to the project until you confirm.
See everything in one view
Section titled “See everything in one view”For a firm-wide picture, use the overview pages at Projects → Milestones and Projects → Deliverables. Both let you filter (by project, phase, assignee, due date, status) and sort, and you can Copy Filtered View to share the exact view with a teammate who has the right permissions.
